List of Volcanic Disasters in Japan after 1970

Today (2014 Sep 27) Mt. Ontake in Nagano prefecture erupted and 63 hikers died by ashes.
The following list shows volcanic disasters in Japan after 1970.

Mountain Period Cause Damage
Usu  1977-1982 Ash, crustal deformation, mudflow  1978 Oct:Mudflow killed 3 people. 2 injured. Damage on 196 houses.
Usu  2000-2001 Ash deposits, crustal deformation mudflow  Damage on roads and trains
Hakkoda  1997 Jul Volcanic gas  During the training, 3 rangers of JSDF died by volcanic gas.
Adatara 1997 Sep Volcanic gas  4 hikers died by volcanic gas.
Kusatsu Shirane  1971 Dec Volcanic gas  Dec 27:6 workers who were working to dig a hot spring died by volcanic gas.
Kusatsu Shirane  1976 Aug Volcanic gas  August 3:3 hikers died by volcanic gas.
Asama  2004 Aug-Nov Ash fall  Damage on firms and windows
Niigata yakeyama  1974 Jul Cinder  July 28:3 hikers died by flying stones.
Yake  1995 Feb Phreatic explosion  Feb 11:4 died by a phreatic explosion 
Ontake 2014 Sep Pyroclastic flow Sep 27:63 hikers around the top died
Miyakejima  1983 Oct Lava, ash fall  Oct 3:400 houses buried by lavas and ashes.
Aso  1979 Sep Eruption  Sep 6:3 died, 11 wounded by an eruption.
Aso  1997 Nov Volcanic gas  Nov 23:2 visitors died by gas.
Unzen  1991 Jun Pyroclastic flow, debris flow  Jun 3:43 died by pyroclastic flows.
Unzen 1991 Jun Pyroclastic flow, debris flow  Jun 8:207 houses were damaged by pyroclastic flows.
Unzen 1991 Sep Pyroclastic flow, debris flow  Sep 15:218 houses were damaged by pyroclastic flows.
Unzen 1992 Aug Pyroclastic flow, debris flow  Aug 8:17 houses were damaged by pyroclastic flows.
Unzen  1993 Jun Pyroclastic flow, debris flow  Jun 23-24:a person died by pyroclastic flow.
Kirishima  2011- Eruption  Feb 1:a person injured by eruption sonic.
Sakurajima  1973 Jun Eruption  Jun 1:a person injured by a flying stone.
Sakurajima  1974 Jun Debris flow  Jun 17:2 died and one person was missing.
Sakurajima 1974 Aug Debris flow Aug 9:5 died by debris flow.
