According to a survey in 2011-2012 by Tokyo Metropolitan Government Bureau of Social Welfare, 12% of households keep cat(s) in Tokyo. This portion is less than the portion of dogs (16%). Tokyo Metropolitan Government estimated there were 1,110,000 cats in Tokyo in 2012.
