Number of Fatal/Severely Injured Accidents in School Physical Education Programs, in Japan

In Japan, from 1998 to 2009, 590 of fatal or severely injured accidents happened during physical education programs, including club activities. Sudden death is the biggest cause of accidents. More than half accidents were sudden deaths. "Severely injured" is called, if the student cannot work any more due to the accident.
