5821 people died by car accidents in Japan, 2012. Proportion of pedestrian is the biggest, 2298 walkers were killed by cars. The following shows the number of deaths by car/bike accidents.

The police also announces the same kind of statistics. But those are for dead persons who died within 24 hours from the accident (and within 30 days). Both are less numbers than the statistics of "Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare". Japanese media usually use less number statistics (police stats).
