Changes in the Prices of Natto in Japan, 1970-2014

Natto is a kind of strange food in Japan. It is made from soybeans fermented with Bacillus subtilis var. natto. Natto is a common food in Japan, but some Japanese persons cannot eat natto because of its powerful smell, strong flavor, and slimy texture. I can eat natto without any problem.

Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications monitors the price of natto monthly. It means natto is sold widely in Japan.

The data below show the changes in the price indexes of natto between 1970 and 2014, if the price in 2010 is taken as 100.
