Population of Vietnamese People in Japan, 2014

According to government statistics, 85,499 of Vietnamese people live in Japan. Vietnamese people are the 5th largest minority ethnic group in Japan, after Chinese, Korean, Filipino and Brazilian.

The population rate is high in Gunma (red colored). But I do not know the reason.

Since the Vietnam War, some Vietnamese refugees came to Japan. There were support centers for refugees in Hyogo and Kanagawa until 1998.  Still thousands of Vietnamese live in Hyogo and Kanagawa.

Figure : Rate of Vietnamese population by prefecture (per 100,000 residents)

The population rate is high in the red prefecture, low in blue prefectures.
