Number of Students Who Learn Foreign Languages (except English) in High School

In most of high schools, students learn English. Besides English, some high schools offer other language classes such as Chinese lesson or French lesson. According to a survey by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, there were 1352 courses of learning other foreign languages in senior high schools in 2012.
The table below shows the number of the students who learn foreign languages (except English) in high schools.

Asian languages are popular. 27 teenagers study Esperanto and 4 learn Latin.

The statistics do not include students who learn foreign languages by themselves.
